5. America didn’t declare its independence on the Fourth of July
Depending on your definition of when an official declaration is indeed truly official, the true Independence Day could be considered July 2nd the day in 1776 when the Continental Congress voted in favor of independence from Great Britain. The Congress formally adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4th.
